“The buds of spring do not rush to bloom, they trust the sun will find them.” ~ unknown

Hello Lovely!

Here's your podcast love letter for today
Sacha Jones approx 15 minutes

Here we go, getting ready to sprout ~ happy new week!

And here are this week’s cliff notes.

I’m not sure about you, but I really like new beginnings, I love the butterfly flutter in my belly, where excitement and nervousness meet and I cherish the sense of hope, possibility, potential that arise.

The season of spring is all about new beginnings. It’s a beautiful time of year to shed old skin, to relinquish old patterns, to release that which no longer serves and say goodbye to old stories.

This is not about perfection ~ but it is about being willing to lean to the light. It's about pushing yourself just beyond your “norm” and saying yes to new experiences. If you've been with me for a while now and notice there are offerings here you've not tried, perhaps this is the time.

For today, day one, I want to suggest a few things to get started ~

Browse the website for recipes. Think about the 30+ plant based challenge as you do. Spring of course is a bit of a transitional time (we even had a little snow this morning). We tend to crave more green food, and lighter fare, but those cooler evenings can make us want warm (and warming) meals. While I personally no longer fancy soup once May rolls around, I'm really into red lentil and other legume based curries, as well as buckwheat galettes and big chunky salads with loads of fun ingredients. I’m definitely more of a "one pot" kind of cook and don't like fussy food prep ~ I recommend keeping it simple, while including as much variety as possible.

Write your very own (personalised) list of morning and evening rituals ~ your daily disciplines. Use my list for guidance, but I find they are even better and more effective when we own these things and apply them to our own lifestyle and schedule. What feels important right now? What will help YOU sprout?

Plan to get outside for a walk or two every day ~ for at least 30 minutes (two 15 minute sessions is absolutely fine). Make your movement playful and joyous as you forage for "glimmers" in your neck of the woods.

Look at the sky (even through a window) as soon as you wake up, (before screens) ~ and as often as possible throughout the day. Natural light in the morning helps reset our circadian rhythm and contributes to a better night's sleep later.

Similarly lower lighting in the evenings to message your brain that it's almost bed time.

I mentioned yesterday that we will be tapping into our principal philosophies this week ~ a really important one being Tiny Tweaks. Small things make a big difference. Baby steps, made consistently, get you want to go. This is going to be really important for the duration of this class. This might look like: a few extra sips of water, some extra conscious breaths, an extra portion of spinach in your lunch, and a collection of mini movement "snacks" ~ it all adds up.

Another important philosophy over here is based around this question: "Is this a nourishing choice?" This question can be asked in any moment ~ about food, purchases, plans, decisions of all kinds. You don’t have to get it right every time. But simply asking this question begins a beautiful dialogue between you and your whole self.

On the no list ~

~ Ultra processed foods of all kinds, sugars, sodas, orange juice and other sweet fruit juices, alcohol (avoid liquid sugar)

~ Bread, pasta, white rice

Eat more ~

~ Plant-based foods (as much diversity as possible)

~ Home prepared meals

Drink more ~

~ Filtered water

~ Herbal tea

For your consideration ~

~ “Close the kitchen” right after dinner by brushing your teeth.

~ Have a full 12-hour fast between your last bite in the evening and your first bite the next day.

~ Wait one hour after waking before breaking your fast.

And if you didn’t get to it yesterday, there’s still time to refresh your linens ~ clean bedsheets, fresh towels, dishcloths, napkins... these are really simple little ways to invite in a sense of renewal.

Housekeeping:

If you want to be in the whatsapp group, send me your cell phone number, (download the app for whatsapp) and I will then invite you individually.

I have only heard from one person interested in a 5 or 6pm zoom call: if this is something you want to see happen, please holler, I am mapping out the week.

So, let the springy sprouting magic begin…

Remember that spring is a time to be silly and playful and light ~ just think of baby lambs and their wiggly tails! Allow the spring breezes to kiss your skin, let beauty catch your eye, lean into giddy delight. (Remember radical joy is an act of rebellion).

Let’s make lots of nourishing choices today, as a collective.

Have a beautiful day one,

Love, love, love,

Sacha xxx
